AFSCME Local 1907 is the exclusive bargaining representative for the 1,500 + general employees working in the City of Miami. Local 1907 was chartered in the 1970s. The current administration has negotiated some of the best wages and working conditions in the history of its unionization. We are proud to have one of the few bargaining units in the nation with a pension like the one we have. Local 1907 consistently strives to keep our union strong by maintaining high membership. We work hard to inform all City of Miami employees of the amazing benefits that come with solidarity and participation. It is only through our strength in numbers that we can amass the bargaining power to achieve contracts like the one we have.

“This is Tammie Heard. She is an employee in Public Works and has been a devoted employee for the last 17 years. On February 4, 2015, she was unfairly terminated by the City. She was a loyal supporter of the Union, so we wanted to send a clear message to the City’s administration: we will take care of those who stand with us. The Union immediately sprung to action. Through the grievance process, we were able to advocate for Tammie. Not only were we able to get her back to her old position, she was restored all that she lost in wages. The value of employees like Tammie is immeasurable. It is employees like Ms. Heard that truly understand our motto and take it to heart: “We are only stronger TOGETHER!”
